Matadors down Brahmas; head to bi-district round

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Matadors put up over 500 yards of total offense in a 56-32 playoff tune up victory over the MacArthur Brahmas on Saturday afternoon at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.

Seguin quarterback Corey Dailey played the first two quarters and accounted for six touchdowns. The junior hit junior running back Ian Moreno for an eight-yard score in the first quarter. Less than three minutes later, Dailey launched a 50-yard strike to wide-out Jacob Burns to put the Mats up 14-0 after the first 12 minutes.

The Brahmas would score twice around a Dailey touchdown pass to tight end Lane Seidenberger to close within 20-12. The Mats would respond with a flurry of touchdowns with just over three minutes left in the half.

The touchdown barrage started when Dailey connected with Ayden Avila for a 57-yard TD. Following a fumble recovery by Seguin defensive tackle Hunter Mica on MacArthur’s next possession, Dailey hit Seidenberger for a 14-yard score. Seguin would then recover an onside kick and score again when Dailey took the ball into the endzone on a fourth and goal from the five to stake the Mats to a 40-12 lead at the half.

In one half of work, Dailey went 13 of 21 through the air for 224 yards. Seguin’s quarterback finished the regular season with 33 touchdown passes. The three-year starter has 76 career TD’s. Dailey also surpassed 6000 yards passing in his career on Saturday.
