SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran secured the number two seed in the SCAC Tournament for the third straight season under head coach Kerwin Johnson after defeating Concordia (TX), 1-0 on Sunday at Gustafson Field. As the game kicked off, senior Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill) made history by becoming Texas Lutheran’s all-time leader in games played and games started with her 81st career game and start on Sunday.

Junior Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) scored the game’s only goal in the 24th minute coming off an Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) free kick. Simien would take the free kick before Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) would take one touch to set up Brame for the game’s only goal. The goal is Brame’s fifth of the season while the assists are Simien’s eighth and Martinez’s ninth respectively. The ninth assist for Martinez ties her with former teammate Ana Parra and TLU Hall of Famer, Kelli Layden, for the second most in a single-season in program history – only trailing Katie Buehler’s 11 in 2007.

The Bulldogs shut down the Tornados in the first half, limiting them to just one shot in the first half. The Tornados would finish with seven shots total in the game with only one coming on goal. Goalkeeper Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) would make the save in her lone challenge on Sunday to pick up her 12th win, bringing her one win shy of matching Katie Kistner for the most goalkeeper wins in a single-season (13, 2004 & 2006). The shutout improves Marquez’s season total to 5.5.

Texas Lutheran would outshoot the Tornados 16-7 in the match and hold a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

TLU improves its record to 12-5-1, 8-2 in SCAC play. Concordia (TX) drops to 9-7-2, 7-2-1 in the SCAC. With the win, Texas Lutheran set a new program record for conference winning percentage, finishing the regular season with an .800 conference winning percentage, surpassing the previous program mark of .786 set the previous two seasons.

The results of Sunday’s match between Southwestern and McMurry sets up a rematch with Concordia (TX) in the SCAC Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8, at SaberCats Stadium in Houston at 2:30 PM. The tournament will be streamed on FloSports. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
