(Seguin) — Prior to kickoff of the Matador game on Friday, former Seguin High School student-athlete Brooke Abrameit and former Seguin athletic director and head football coach Mike Honeycutt will be inducted into Seguin ISD Athletic Hall of Honor.
Abrameit, a 2010 Seguin graduate, was a member of the Lady Matador volleyball team that reached the state semifinals in her senior year. That Spring, she competed on the Lady Mat softball team that also made a playoff run. After high school, Abrameit continued her athletic career at Navarro Junior College. She established a school record for most digs in a single season at Navarro with 712 in 2011. Beyond her athletic achievements, Abrameit helps several non-profit organizations in Seguin. She lives in Seguin with her fiance Brandon Deal and their children, Cooper, Camryn, and Callie.
Honeycutt had a very successful high school football coaching career spanning 54 years, including at Seguin High School where served as AD and head football coach from 1985 to 1991. He was Seguin’s head coach the last time the Matadors won a playoff game in 1988, a 34-21 win over San Antonio Holmes in the bi-district round. He was a member of the coaching staff at Uvlade High School when the Coyotes won the state title in 1972. Honeycutt retired from coaching in 2020 after a stint at Kyle Lehman High School. Honeycutt and his wife, Sheryl have been married for 44 years. They have many children and grandchildren.
Abrameit and Honeycutt will be inducted into the Seguin ISD Athletic Hall of Honor before Friday night’s Seguin/Wagner football game.
