Entries sought for annual Seguin Art League Fundraiser & Art Show

Special by Katy Penny, Main Street & CVB Intern

(Seguin) — Calling all art lovers! We have a very special event happening this month that spotlights our local artists and the introspective view that they have of the city of Seguin. Join us for the 2nd Annual Seguin Art League Fundraiser & Art Show beginning October 24th till November 9th.

Artwork from local Seguin artists will be displayed at the Patron Gala from 5:30-7:30p.m. at the Seguin Art League. The prompt for this year’s theme is all about what you love about Seguin and what makes it special to you. You can create your work on a wood pecan shaped panel made by Jacob Spacek which is provided by the Seguin Art League for $25, or you can use your own 9 x 12 x 1.5 gallery wrapped canvas or wood pane with a $25 application fee attached as well. To be eligible to enter the art show you must be 18 years or older to participate.

The goal of this event is not only to bring awareness to our local artists in this community, but to raise money to help with the repairs for the Seguin Art League building projects. As a non-profit, they rely on the amazing community of Seguin to participate in events such as this to help them gather the funds needed for different projects when it comes to the organization. The artwork will be priced at $200 as part of the fundraiser with half of the price going to the artist and the other half to be donated to the Seguin Art League.

There are a ton of different ways that you can participate! Such as, sponsoring an artist, entering the art contest yourself, or just by being there and taking an interest in the event and what it has to offer. Participation is extremely essential to the local arts and as a community. The president at the Seguin Art League, Clara Mae Marcotte, stated, “Art is a part of everyone’s life and art education is not just available for adults, but for children as well. As part of the community, we feel that we provide that”.

As there is much to anticipate for this year’s fundraiser, Marcotte also states, “I’m looking forward to seeing how different artists and members interpret the theme this year and how people see Seguin”. This event will not only showcase the artists of Seguin, but the heart of Seguin itself. We hope to see you there!
