Little cowboys, cowgirls encouraged to enter now
(Seguin) — Do you think you have the cutest cowboy or cowgirl?
The Guadalupe County Fair Association is looking to rope in some last-minute contestants for its annual Best Western Wear Roundup.
Organizers are giving parents and guardians until 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 to enter the contest slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Seguin Coliseum.
The contest is designed for boys ages 0-5 and 0-7 for girls.
Committee Chair Madeline Zwicke Dalman says of all the contests at the fair, she believes this is the cutest of them all. Plus, she says each will get the chance to walk away with some great prizes to include belt buckles, gift cards and even passes to places such as ZDT’s Amusement Park, Jungle Jam and the Seguin Wave Pool.
“This contest is a great way for the little ones to get involved in the fair for the first time and so I always think it’s one of the cutest things that you are going to see at the fair but open to ages 0-5 for boys and girls. So, we have boys and girls’ divisions 0-1, 2-3 and 4-5 and then we have a Girls’ Queen Division for ages 6-7. So, all are welcome,” said Dalman.
Dalman says all children will be judged on appearance, personality and uniqueness of their outfit.
Entering the contest, however, does not mean going out and buying a whole new wardrobe. Dalman says it’s just about having fun, being stylish with whatever you have and helping to create those memories.
“I feel like you can wear something you might already have at home or even maybe some good hand me downs from a friend or family member – (those) are always great. For the boys, I usually see some cute little Wrangler jeans and some boots and maybe a little belt buckle and pearl snap shirt and for the girls, I’ve seen anything from jeans and boots to dresses and skirts, cowgirl hats – you name it. But you don’t have to spend a lot of money on a brand-new outfit. I just encourage people if you have something in the closet that will work for the kids — then come as you are, get them on stage and have them participate in the fair,” said Dalman.
In addition, Grand Champion winners and the 6-7-year-old Queen and Queen’s Court will be recognized at the Fair Queen’s Contest and PRCA Rodeo being held later that day on Saturday.
The deadline to enter the contest via email is 5 p.m. Monday. Participants are asked to enter by providing a description of their attire to madelinezwicke@yahoo.com.
