Navarro Lady Panthers down Canyon Lake to even district record

Navarro volleyball players Izzy Geipel (L) and Rylee Smith block a shot at the net against Canyon Lake on October 1, 2024.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers evened up their District 26-4A record at 1-1 with a straight sets victory over Canyon Lake, 25-11, 25-22, 25-17 on Tuesday night at Navarro High School.

The Lady Panthers cruised in the first set, but found themselves down 22-19 in the second set. Navarro would rally and roll off the next six points to go up two sets to none. The Lady Panthers were then able to hold off the Lady Hawks in the third set to gain the district sweep.

Navarro hitters Izzy Geipel, Kate Wozniak, Brooklyn Fox and Morgan Helms put away numerous shots in the victory. After the match, Lady Panther head coach Paige Poth said their setters were able to find good spots for their hitters.

“We got all hitters involved tonight. I was very impressed by that,” Poth said. “Friday against Wimberley was a tough one for us, but we did see what our open shots will be like so we can game plan.

“We’ve already seen Davenport in tournament play, so we have an idea of what we’re getting into on Friday. But, we utilized all of our hitters tonight and they did good offensively.”

Navarro fell at home to Wimberly last Friday in their district opener. The Lady Panthers will host San Antonio Davenport on Friday. The Lady Wolves are 2-0 in district after taking down Wimberley on the road on Tuesday. Friday’s match between the Lady Panthers and Lady Wolves gets underway at 6 p.m. at Navarro High School.

The Navarro Lady Panthers are on the volleyball court tonight in Geronimo against Canyon Lake in District 26-4A play!
