(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors took over sole possession of first place in District 27-5A with a sweep of red-hot San Antonio Burbank in a battle of district unbeaten teams on Tuesday night at Goldie Harris Gym.

Seguin won the match in three close sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-21. The Lady Mats, who have not lost a set in seven district matches, cooled down the Lady Bulldogs who came to Seguin on a 12-game winning streak. Burbank threatened to end Seguin’s set streak in the third by jumping out to a 14-8 lead, but the Lady Mats went on a 17-7 run to close the final set to earn the win.

Prior to the match the Burbank volleyball team presented flowers to Christina Belicek, the mother of Chloe Belicek, the Seguin volleyball player who passed away on July 25th following injuries sustained in a car crash.

Seguin head coach Ashley Farris evoked the memories of Chloe when asked about her team’s comeback after the match.

“We talk a lot about having Chloe mentality because Chole Belicek never gave up on a single thing in her life,” Farris said. “And we’re just continuing remembering her and we honor her with that mentality and it showed tonight.”

Sophomore Elli Anderson led the Lady Mats with 15 kills in the victory. Junior setter Gisele Morales had 32 assists. Senior Karina Lerma punched through 12 kills and she had 22 digs to surpass 1000 digs in her career.

The first-place Seguin Lady Matadors will next play San Antonio Brackenridge on Saturday. The Lady Eagles and Lady Mats will meet at Noon on Saturday at the Alamo Convention Center.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers improved their record to 22-11 with a home sweep of New Braunfels Long Creek on Tuesday.

Navarro took the match, 25-11, 25-9, 25-9. The Lady Panthers have won four straight. Navarro will open District 26-4A play on Friday when they host Wimberley.

(San Antonio) — And the Marion Lady Bulldogs fell on the road to San Antonio Davenport on Tuesday night in their final non-district match of the season.

Davenport took the match 25-15, 25-9, 25-4. The Lady Bulldogs concluded their non-district schedule with 10 wins. Marion will open District 27-3A play on Friday at Great Hearts Monte Vista.
