For Immediate Release
ABILENE, Texas — The #RV Texas Lutheran football team traveled to Abilene to take on the McMurry War Hawks (2-1, 2-0 SCAC) in a battle of the top two teams in the SCAC Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs would fall to the War Hawks in their first road conference game of the 2024 season, 31-10. The Bulldogs fall to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in SCAC play.

The War Hawks built a three touchdown lead going into halftime and maintained the double-digit lead through the entirety of the second half. Turnovers doomed the Bulldogs Saturday night with three fumbles lost and an interception.

Caden Bosanko (San Antonio/East Central) had 145 yards passing for TLU with an interception and added 59 yards rushing. Caleb Camarillo (San Antonio/Southside) had three catches for 44 yards but was unable to find the end zone. Freshman quarterback Landon Gill (San Antonio/Madison) came in in the fourth quarter and led the Bulldogs lone scoring drive of the night, finding Eugene Robinson IV (Lake Charles, LA/Fort Bend Hightower) for a 22-yard connection.

McMurry would score ten points in the first quarter before the Bulldogs would get on the board in the second quarter courtesy of a 36-yard field goal from Joaquin Rodriguez (San Antonio/Smithson Valley). The War Hawks would score 21 unanswered points across the remainder of the second quarter and a touchdown in the fourth before Gill would get the Bulldogs in the end zone with his passing touchdown to Robinson with a little over two minutes remaining.

Grayson Kowalski (Sabinal/Sabinal) led the Bulldogs defensively with a career-high ten tackles (four solo) with a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss in addition to a blocked field goal. Deyreck Dean (Rockwall/Rockwall) tallied eight tackles (six solo). The TLU defense would record seven tackles for loss in total.

Texas Lutheran travels to Batesville, AR next Saturday, Sept. 28, to face the Lyon College Scots. Kickoff is set for 2 PM. All streaming and stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
