SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran punter Cameron Welch (New Braunfels/Canyon) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Welch is honored for his performance in Saturday’s convincing 31-8 win over Centenary.
Welch, a 6-3, 210 pound senior from New Braunfels was outstanding in the field position battle. He punted five times for a 41-yard average with a long of 50 yards. Three of the 2023 All-ASC First Team punter’s punts were spotted inside the 20-yard line. It is the first player of the week honor in Welch’s career.
After finishing seventh in Division-III a season ago, Welch ranks 19th in Division-III with a 42-yard average through two weeks of the 2024 season.
Welch and the SCAC-leading #RV Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 SCAC) travel to Abilene this week to face the McMurry War Hawks in a battle between the top two teams in the 2024 SCAC Preseason Coaches Poll. Kickoff against the War Hawks is set for 6 PM on Saturday, Sept. 21, and the game will be streamed on FloSports, which will require a subscription to watch. More info is available here.
