Murdoch’s acquires D&D Texas Outfitters

Murdoch's acquires D&D Texas Outfitters

Company president shares the excitement of serving Seguin

(Seguin) – D&D Texas Outfitters here in Seguin is no longer. This week, the locally owned farm and ranch retailer has turned over its operation to Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply. After decades of running the popular store just north of Interstate 10, D&D Owners Chase and Corbett Ferrell have sold the operation to Murdoch’s. In town to oversee the acquisition is Chris Odegard, Murdoch’s president and chief merchandising officer. Odegard, who is one of the five owners of the company, says he is excited to be a part of the local store’s next chapter.

“We are a farm and ranch retail operation. We are privately held. There are five of us that own it. We’ve all grown up in the business.

We love retail and we sell all the same products that D&D does plus some more. We love firearms, ammo, optics, and sporting goods. We will be bringing those in hopefully before Christmas and do a big job in pet supplies, pet feed, large animal feed – all the categories that you have come to love at D&D and more as well. This is our 7th store in Texas. We began adding stores down here in the fall of 2022 and are very proud to add this one in Seguin and partner with D&D,” said Odegard.

Odegard says he recognizes the reputation that D&D has held onto for the last several decades and is honored to be a part of the Ferrell family’s decision – a decision that also includes each of its current team members.

“We’ve known the Ferrell brothers for years. We’ve had the upmost admiration and respect for their business, customer service, great products, fair prices and when they called and said they were wanting to sell, we were happy to engage in that process with them. So, we are happy to take care of their people, bring their folks on board.  The entire store team was offered positions last night (Tuesday night) and they began orientation this morning. We are getting the business back on its feet and have hit the ground running. Excited for this transition,” said Odegard.

The Ferrell brothers also in a written statement shared their thoughts about this next chapter.

“From our perspective, Murdoch’s is an outstanding farm and ranch retailer, and our core values of serving the customer, supporting the livelihood of our communities and valuing our team members are completely aligned. Our customers and team members will be in good hands,” said Chase & Corbett Ferrell of the sale.

Like D&D, Odegard says Murdoch’s takes pride in not only its customer service but also the overall standards that set throughout its 45 other stores.

“We are all about taking care of our people, our own and our customers. Just because we have a number of stores, it doesn’t mean that we have lost that sight of what is important, so we are here to have a great store, great service, great products and just want to build on the success of D&D,” said Odegard.

Although the Ferrell’s have turned over the D&D operation, Odegard says it is important to note that their D&D Trailers business will continue to operate next door.

“D&D Trailers continues and will be owned and operated by Chase Ferrell and they will be fantastic neighbors to have and excited to be right next to them,” said Odegard.

Meanwhile, Odegard is excited about transforming the store for local customers. He says team members will remain busy these next few months making the shift throughout its store shelves.

“We sell very similar products and in order to make this transition work, we need to clear through the similar ones and bring in our version. So, there will be quite a few deals going on throughout the store as we get sales enacted and as we transform the store. So, we might have something on sale but we are just going to move through that and bring in our version of the same product,” said Odegard.

Murdoch’s first store began in 1994 in its home office location of Bozeman, MT. Today, Murdoch’s operates stores spanning six states. Those states include Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Texas, and Wyoming. They are also available to customers via their website at murdochs.com.

Here in Seguin, customers will benefit from new expanded hours at the ranch and home retailer. The hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
