SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran women’s soccer was selected as the preseason No. 2 team in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in a poll of the league’s coaches released Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs selection as the preseason second-place team in the league comes after the arrival of three new programs to the conference. Trinity stands as the preseason favorite to take home the conference’s regular season crown, having done so eight of the last nine seasons. The league’s 2023 conference tournament runner-up in Southwestern and conference newcomer, McMurry, sit in third and fourth respectively. Another conference newcomer, Concordia (TX), and St. Thomas round out the top half of the conference’s preseason poll.
Texas Lutheran returns to the pitch following a 9-5-4 season in 2023 that saw the Bulldogs claim second place in the conference in the regular season and match the program record set a season ago for conference winning percentage (.786). The Bulldogs return 14 letterwinners from last year’s roster, welcoming a quartet of transfers and seven freshmen to round out the 27-woman roster for the 2024 campaign.
The Bulldogs, under the direction of third-year head coach Kerwin Johnson, kick off the 2024 season with a top 25 matchup at Gustafson Field. Texas Lutheran squares off against the No. 18 Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls in a 6 PM kick on TLU+ on August 30. The contest will serve as the first home regular season contest for Texas Lutheran Athletics in 2024.
