Area teen remains hospitalized after bicycle collides with truck


(Guadalupe County) – A 14-year-old boy remains hospitalized after being hit by a pickup truck while riding his bike along a road in Guadalupe County.

Sgt. Kenny Mata with the Texas Department of Public Safety says the accident occurred just after 4 p.m. Fridayon FM 1044, north of Youngsford Road.

He says preliminary investigation by DPS Troopers indicate that a Ford E-350, driven by a 33-year-old male, was traveling southbound on FM 1044 when it collided with a bicycle ridden by the teen.

“The bicyclist was traveling north on the southbound side of FM 1044 at the time of the collision. It is currently unknown whether the bicycle was on the shoulder or within the traffic lane. The 14-year-old male bicyclist sustained major injuries and was treated on the scene by medical personnel before being transported via helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio,” said Mata.

Investigating officers say the driver of the Ford E-350, remained on scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.

No word yet on the current condition of the 14-year-old boy.
