Local businesses to offer free back-to-school haircuts
(Seguin) – Going back to school also means having kids look and fee their best. Helping to provide that boost of confidence this weekend will be the Seguin Elks Lodge. The lodge will be continuing its tradition of providing free haircuts to kids from noon to 6 p.m.
Kristine Bode, president and exalted ruler of the organization, says the group is inviting families to stop by for free Kids Cuts plus some other back-to-school goodies as well.
“Over the last few years, we’ve tried to do things back to school. This year, it finally has all come together as one event. Last year, we did the kids cuts and then in a different time frame, we did some back-to-school supplies. This year, we combined it all to where it is a one stop shop. They can come in and get the kids cuts. We will have some snacks for them while they wait if there is a line. We also have goodie bags for them. Each bag has a little winter hat and some gloves. It has a few school supplies and lots of healthy after school snacks in it,” said Bode.
Bode says the Seguin Elks Lodge appreciates the five licensed cosmetologists who will be donating their time. She says they all understand the stress that this time of year can have on a family.
This is just something that is near and dear to us. We want to make sur each child has what they need as best as we can, and the free cuts are really a big deal. Parents are so strapped right now trying to get supplies and trying to get clothes and shoes,” said Bode.
There is no registration required and the haircuts will be provided on a first come, first serve basis at the Elks Lodge located at 1331 C.H. Matthies Jr. Parent haircuts will also be available for a $10 donation.
Like the Elks Lodge, other businesses are also doing their part to send kids back to class with that extra boost of confidence.
Others offering free kid’s haircuts include Texas Styles (501 E. Kingsbury St.) from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday; Paramount Barber Lounge (225 Saunders St) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and The Ozone Barbershop (550 State Hwy. 123 Suite 15) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
