(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers got in their first day workouts on Monday in preparation for the 2024 football season.
The Panthers have only 17 returning lettermen from a squad that went 9-4 in 2023 and finished second in District 13-4A at 4-1, one game behind district champion Wimberley. Navarro head coach Rod Blount is preparing his team for his seventh season in Geronimo. The Panthers have advanced at least three rounds in the UIL playoffs in each year of Blount’s first six seasons as coach.
Blount says his players were ready to go on the first day of practice.
“It’s just a learning day coming out and trying to set the tone for the season, get all the fundamentals taught, stance alignment and getting our keys done and making sure everybody’s on the same page. The kids came out with a good attitude. At five o’clock this morning, the kids were here an hour early ready to go and it’s great to see that excitement.”
Navarro will start the season on August 30th at home against Floresville. The District 13-4A season for the Panthers will begin on September 27th when the Wimberley Texans come to Erwin-Lee Field on the campus of Navarro High School.
The Seguin Matadors and Marion Bulldogs are also underway with workouts this week. We’ll have a look at how their early practices are going later this week. Our high school broadcast schedule begins on August 30th when Seguin hosts Alamo Heights at Matador Stadium. You’ll hear all the action on AM 1580 KWED and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
