(Marion) — The Marion Volunteer Fire Department is inviting its surrounding neighbors to its annual 88th Sausage Supper and Live Auction.
The event will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church.
Marion Fire Chief Jeremy Davenport says his crew is looking forward to another successful event.
“Traditionally, it’s a sausage plate that we sell there and it’s even a special blend of sausage that we get from Penshorn’s for the event. We are using local people as well as Circle G Catering to help us with getting the place prepared and then, we bring all the local businesses to help provide items for a live auction and this is a significant portion of our budget to be able to continue to buy the needed equipment and gear that we need for the volunteers in our community to serve it,” said Davenport.
Sausage plates catered by David Goerke’s Circle G Catering are $15 each and will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until food runs out. Both a drive thru and pick up line will be available. Seating will be held at the church pavilion.
Other activities that day include a variety of games, bounce houses, bake sale and live music.
Davenport says folks will also want to warm up their arms for a little added fun at this year’s event.
“We’ve got a dunking booth. I’ll be sitting in the dunking booth from 11 a.m. to noon. We’ve got the school superintendent as well as the school principals from the Marion ISD. (They) are taking shifts as well so come out and dunk your favorite administrator,” said Davenport.
The invitation to come out and support Marion is an invitation for anyone in the area. That’s because when it comes to VFDs, Davenport says everyone benefits.
“Our district covers from just south of I-35 all the way to I-10 and then between Cibolo and McQueeney. So, we cover a very large area. It is not just the city of Marion. We cover the county and then on top of that, we mutual aid to all of the other county departments. We have fought fires in York Creek. We have fought fires in Kingsbury. We’ve been to fires in Sand Hills and of course, all of our direct neighbors as well. To say that the Marion Volunteer Fire Department is just covering Marion is not true. We provide resources to the entire county and we’ve even been into Bexar County several times too, helping the big guys whenever they get very large events that happen,” said Davenport.
To get a head start in the bidding process for this year’s live auction, folks are encouraged to check out the items on the Marion VFD’s Facebook page. This year’s auction which features 85 items gets underway at 2 p.m.
Immaculate Conception Church is located at 212 N. Barnett St. in Marion.
