(Seguin) – A Seguin High School athlete is fighting for her life today after being seriously injured in a car crash Wednesday afternoon in San Marcos. According to San Marcos Police, the accident occurred just before 5 p.m. on State Highway 123 near Lovelady Lane.
The initial investigation indicates that a minor collision left a Ford four-door passenger vehicle disabled in the roadway.
After the minor collision, officers say the driver of the Ford got out of the vehicle while the driver of the other vehicle was able to pull off the roadway.
However, the passenger of the Ford, also the SHS student identified as Chloe Belicek, remained sitting in the front seat while the vehicle sat disabled in the roadway.
That’s when officers say a second collision occurred when a Dodge pickup truck collided into the back end of the Ford injuring Belicek.Belicek was transported to Ascension Seton Hays with life-threatening injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge was also transported to Ascension Seton Hays with non-life-threatening injuries.
Since the news of the accident, the Seguin community has been rallying to support Belicek, her family, and the entire Matador family. Uplifting postings continue to flood social media pages as Belicek remains in critical condition. To further show support, the public is invited to join Matador Nation for a morning of prayer with Pastor Chris Larson. The gathering will be
held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Matador Stadium.
San Marcos Police say the crash remains under investigation. They say it’s also not clear whether any charges may be filed at this time.
