(Seguin) – If you’ve considered running for the Seguin City Council, then now is your chance.
Filing is now underway for several district seats including the position of mayor.
Seguin City Secretary Kristin Mueller says the commitment for council members is for a four-year term. She says each elected position is eligible for two terms and/or a maximum of eight years.
“The position of Mayor, District 1, District 2, District 4, and District 6 are all up for election. District 2 is currently vacant. District 4, Councilman (Chris) Rangel has termed out. He has already served his two full terms. He will not be eligible for reelection and then District 1 and 6 who are Incumbents Councilman Joe Rea and Mayor Pro-Tem Monica Carter, they are eligible to serve another term,” said Mueller.
Mueller says the opportunity to run during the Nov. 5 General Election is open to any resident meeting the mandated requirements.
“If they are registered to vote, they are at least 18 and don’t have a felony conviction and they have lived in the state for at least 12 months and then in the district they are wanting to run in for at least six months, they are eligible,” said Mueller.
Mueller says the filing deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19. She says the secretary’s office has made it easy for potential candidates to file.
“We do have printed packets here in the city secretary’s office and it is posted online, on our website under the election’s tab — there is a section called Related Documents and the notices and the candidate’s packet is included,” said Mueller.
The Seguin City Secretary’s Office at Seguin City Hall is located at 205 N. River St. The office is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Packets are also online at https://www.seguintexas.gov/490/Elections
