SEGUIN, Texas — The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday that a record number of volleyball programs have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, including the Texas Lutheran volleyball team. More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year. The Bulldogs turned in a 3.41 team GPA over the course of the 2023-24 academic year.
The Bulldogs open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 30 at the Trinity National Invitational in San Antonio. Texas Lutheran will take on 2023 NCAA Tournament qualifier, SUNY-Cortland, and College of Saint Benedict at 12:15 and 6 PM CST on the campus of Trinity University. TLU will conclude the weekend against 2023 American Southwest Conference champions and NCAA Tournament qualifier, East Texas Baptist on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 3:30 PM. Texas Lutheran’s home opener will also serve as its conference opener as they take on rival Trinity on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5 PM.
