Country star Larry Gatlin set to perform benefit concert at Palace Theatre

(Seguin) — A living legend in county and southern gospel music will perform a special concert in Seguin this weekend. Larry Gatlin is set to perform at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Palace Theatre in downtown Seguin. The concert is a benefit for the Meadow Lake Nolte Dam Association (MLNDA).

The concert was put together by local resident Phil Fisher. Fisher is a lake resident and has deep ties to the music industry. He says they’re excited about Gatlin bringing his talents to Seguin for a good cause. The money raised will help to repair the aging dam, that creates the lake area on the Guadalupe River in Seguin.

“About seven months ago, I got to thinking, and I was talking to my wife, Melissa, and I said, ‘we need to do something to help out this cause.’ As you know, you know, we lost our dam as well, and it’s very important to the vitality of Seguin to have the dam back.  Meadowlake was just in awful condition right now, as are the other lakes. So, I got to thinking about what I could do to help, and I called up some of the people that I’ve worked for in the past in the music business. And Larry was kind enough to come down here and do this (for us). You know, he was very, very understanding and very willing to help us. So, what this is going to be is a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, July the 14th at the Palace Theater,” said Fisher.

Fisher says this will be a great show, and people are encouraged to get their tickets now. He says there are only a limited number of tickets still available. So, it’s important to get them now.

“They can go on to the Meadowlake-Nolte Dam Association website and there is a link on that website that will say purchase Larry Gatlin tickets. And they can punch on that and then it will take them to another drop down that that will say ticketspice.com. They’ll punch on that one and then they’ll be self-prompted from there. Now for the folks that cannot access that code, they’ll be selling tickets the day of the concert. There’s only about 47 tickets left. So, we’ve had a really good turnout,” said Fisher.

Larry Gatlin has enjoyed a music career that spans decades. His music includes his time with his brothers and his work as a solo artist. They collected a number of hits over the years, like “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You” and “All the Gold in California.”

Fisher says Larry’s musical accomplishments go much further than all of that, and that’s one of the reasons why he expects it to be such a terrific performance.

“Larry has had a very, very great career, and he’s still going strong. He has written lots of songs for other people such as Barbra Streisand and Elvis Presley, and things like that, that people hadn’t realized. And plus, he’s a pretty doggone good guy,” said Fisher.

Fisher says in addition to the concert, MLNDA will also be hosting a special raffle during the concert. He says someone that night is going to walk-away with an unbelievable collector’s item.

“There will be a raffle the day of the concert. I was able to get a guitar signed by George Strait. That guitar will be on display there at the theater and if people want to buy raffle tickets, that’s even better. So, someone might enjoy having a George Strait signed guitar,” said Fisher.

The doors to the Palace Theatre will open at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, with the show slated to begin at 6 p.m. Fisher says a limited number of tickets may be available at the door, but he says the best way to guarantee your tickets is to buy them online now on the MLNDA’s website, or you can also find a link on the association’s Facebook page.
