Seguin ISD gets update on districtwide bond projects

(Seguin) — Fast and furious are how district officials are describing the progress of bond projects currently in the works across the Seguin ISD.

Sharing the district’s most recent update is Bill Lewis, the consultant tasked with overseeing the district’s bond projects.

First on his list was the announcement that the addition of new classrooms at Ball Early Childhood Center is officially complete. He says not only did the project finish earlier than expected but staff have already moved in for the upcoming school year.

“Ball Early Childhood Center, we have a 100 percent completed project over there. It turned out beautiful. It looks just like a great extension of the previous building — the color schemes, the looks — of course, the Koehler Company, did the original. They redid that back in 2010,” said Lewis.

Lewis also brought the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees up to speed on the Ag facility project.

Lewis says on top of finalizing the design, officials are working on enclosures as well as ground security.

He says fencing is not just for the animals but to help keep the site protected.

“The Ag facility. I know a lot of people have been asking why is this not done? Why is this not going up? Well, we are not just building a barn. We are building a huge Ag science facility with lots of moving parts, lots of details that the staff at the high school and the Ag teachers have just been awesome in providing — all the details and the things they want, the things they’ve seen, the things they’ve learned and heard — very specific to the animals that are going to be kept and raised in these facilities. Moving along, we are on target for this. Some things that are coming up is we are going to be doing some water testing on the wells that are out there. We do have electricity on site to turn on that well and start testing the water because when we pull in a lot of water from the bibs from the well, we are not paying for the water from the water provider out there,” said Lewis.

Also in the works is the planning for the transportation department. Lewis says design documents are complete. He says now they await the bid process for sometime in August. Roofing and other repairs are also in the works for the Central Administration Building housed in the former Oak Park Mall facility.

Progress can also be seen over at the new baseball and softball complex at Seguin High School. The turf has officially been installed and the large steel beams appear to already be in place for the batting cage. Work also continues with the concession stand and restroom area.

The Seguin ISD also just recently broke ground for the construction and renovation of Barnes Middle School. The district plans to expand the cafeteria, library and fine arts area while also adding additional classrooms. A redesign of the drop-off and pick-up line is also part of the overall renovation at Barnes.

Finalizing a date for a summer groundbreaking for the new McQueeney Elementary campus is also said to be in the works.
