12-year-old boy drowns in Guadalupe River

(Seguin) —  The community is still reeling today from the news of a drowning of a 12-year old boy.

City of Seguin officials say the drowning occurred around 9:45 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of River Road. The vacation rental home is located in the unincorporated portion of Guadalupe County, but the city’s fire department responded to the call.

According to reports, five boys visiting the area with a church group were swimming in the Guadalupe River. That’s when the 12-year old boy went underwater and did not resurface.  The boy was not wearing a life vest.

Texas game wardens, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, STAR Flight from Austin, and a dive team from the New Braunfels Fire Department assisted with the search and recovery of the boy’s body. He was located and pulled from the water about 1:15 Monday afternoon.

The boy’s family was notified, but his name is not being released because he is a minor.

The boy was said to be from the South Texas area.
