12-year old boy drowns in the Guadalupe River outside a vacation rental near Seguin

(Seguin) — The community is reeling today from the news of a drowning of a 12-year old boy. City of Seguin officials say the drowning occurred around 9:45 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of River Road. The vacation rental home is located in the unincorporated portion of Guadalupe County, but the Seguin Fire Department responded to the call.

According to reports, five boys visiting the area with a church group were swimming in the Guadalupe River. That’s when the 12-year old boy went underwater and did not resurface. The boy was not wearing a life vest.

Texas game wardens, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, STAR Flight from Austin, and a dive team from the New Braunfels Fire Department assisted with the search and recovery of the boys body. He was located and pulled from the water about 1:15 Monday afternoon.

The boy’s family was notified, but his name is not being released, because he is a minor. The boy was said to be from the South Texas area.
