Games, crafts, reading, live animals plus trivia all part of summer experience
(Seguin) – The Seguin Public Library is opening its doors to an array of activities for local families this summer season. The library has officially launched its annual Summer Reading Experience, themed “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”
This summer, the library invites readers of all ages to embark on a thrilling journey filled with books, activities, and events designed to inspire a love of reading and exploration. Most importantly, the reading experience is free.
Children’s events for ages 5-11 are set for every Thursday featuring a time traveling hot air balloon, with activities from different eras or places including “Ancient Egypt & African Deserts”, and “Medieval Times & Royalty” plus a visit featuring live animals from Happy Tails Entertainment on June 27th.
Teens ages 12 – 17 will have their own activities, including creative writing workshops, art and writing contests, and an After-Hours Cosplay Ball on June 21st at 6pm. Teen events also include Teen Tuesday every Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with activities like video gaming, Junk Food Taste Tests, and a Retro Road Trip Escape Room on July 23rd at 3pm.
There are also plenty of activities and events for the adults. Some of those events include a Travel Trivia Night, Murder Mystery Party, Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, National Treasure Escape Room, Hot Air Balloon Painting Night, and Comedy Night.
Younger children’s story times will also continue throughout the summer, including Baby Time, Toddler Time, Preschool and Family Storytimes.
All ages will also be encouraged to engage in reading experiences using Adventure Gameboards, with kids and teens eligible to earn free books. Plus, all age groups are eligible for grand prize drawings featuring prizes such as gift cards, LEGOs, books, camping gear and other special surprises.
This year’s Summer Experience wraps up with the library’s annual MiniCon on Saturday, Aug. 3 from noon to 4 pm. Meet Mari Mancusi, author of middle grade, young adult and new adult novels and former Emmy Award winning television news producer. Those in attendance will get to celebrate pop culture in the Artists Alley. They will also get to attend panels, gaming and cosplay.
“Our theme this year, ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library,’ aims to spark curiosity and encourage lifelong learning through the magic of stories and adventures,” said Silvia Christy, library director at Seguin Public Library. “We’re excited to offer a diverse range of programs that cater to all age groups, ensuring that everyone can find their own adventure
at the library this summer. We also want to remind the community that library cards are
free for Guadalupe County residents, so if you don’t have one yet…get on it!”
The Summer Reading Program is now underway and runs through Aug. 8th. Pre-registration is now open online to all community members. To sign up, visit www.library.seguintexas.gov. or stop by the library located at 313 W. Nolte St.
