(Seguin) – The sounds of summer return to downtown Seguin this Sunday. The Seguin Main Street Program again announces the launch of its Central Park Concert Series. Guests are invited to enjoy live music in Central Park every Sunday throughout the month of June.
Kicking off this year’s series is the Comal Community Band conducted by Alfred Tapia.
Kyle Kramm, Seguin Main Street and CVB director, says he is excited about another round of concerts and invites folks to bring their chairs and blankets and give the sounds a try.
“They play a variety of polkas and big band music and it’s all volunteers that make up this band and they are a very popular crowd favorite that comes back every year. So, the concert will be in Central Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. We will have two food trucks there as well. The Girl Scouts will be there selling baked goods as well as another vendor and so it’s a nice evening to come out, sit out in the park and listen to different music and enjoy your community,” said Kramm.
This weekend will mark the band’s 12th time to initiate the city of Seguin series. Tapia is a San Antonio native who served in the military Army as a musician and Bandmaster until he retired in 1984. During his service, Tapia conducted bands in Vietnam, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the German Democratic Republic, France, and Morocco. He has remained an active musician in the San Antonio area since, including being a member of many other bands, teaching, and conducting.
Kramm, again, says the band this weekend will play a wide array of pieces from German inspired to classical to modern wind arrangements. Just as they are diverse in musical genres, Kramm says they are diverse in members. Members come from all ages, genders, occupations, and backgrounds and share their talents in harmony. Some band members are past band directors or professional musicians, but most are just amateur players with a heart for music.
This year’s concert series is being made possible by Niagara Bottling Company. Other June concerts can be found on the Seguin Main Street Facebook page.
