(Columbus, GA) — Seguin High School alum Marissa Bradley helped the NAIA No. 1-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball squad secure their first NAIA National Championship title.
The Saints defeated No. 7 seed Jessup University 2-0 in the national championship on Wednesday at the NAIA World Series in Columbus, Georgia. Bradley drove in the first run of the game for the Saints in the third inning. Bradley singled down the left field line to score Kayla Dreese from second base. The Saints would hold the lead and tack on another run in the sixth frame. Madison Garza smacked a home run over the left field fence to give the Saints an insurance run.
Cassandra Valdez earned the complete game shutout in the circle. Valdez had five strikeouts to finish the season with a 30-1 record. The Saints claimed their first title in program history finishing the season at 57-3 overall and winning all four of their games at the NAIA World Series.
Bradley, a 2020 graduate of Seguin High School, played at first base for OLLU where she is a Business Management major. Bradley was an All-District selection in each of her three seasons with the Matadors. She was a member of the Seguin softball team that advanced to the UIL Class 5A Region IV semifinals in 2019. Bradley was a star on Seguin’s Little League World Series team in the summer of 2015.
In 43 games played for the Saints this season, Bradley hit .243 with 12 runs scored and 18 RBI. Bradley also had three stolen bases.
