(Seguin) — TxDOT is reminding you about some changes this week along I-10.
TxDOT officials say through this Friday, the 1-10 westbound shoulder will be closed during the day between State Highway 46 and FM 464.
The road will be closed so contractors can perform work.
Meanwhile as construction continues to grow around Seguin and Guadalupe County, the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to be extra careful especially around these work zones.
TxDOT officials say Texas has more than 1,900 active work zones across the state. In 2023, there were more than 26,000 traffic crashes in these work zones, a 3 percent increase over the previous year.
Of the 190 people killed in these crashes, 77 percent were drivers or their passengers.
In the Austin area last year alone, there were 1,739 traffic crashes in work zones, resulting in 23 fatalities and 67 serious injuries.
With all of this in mind, TxDOT has again launching its statewide “Be Safe. Drive Smart” work zone safety campaign.
TxDOT is urging drivers to slow down, stay alert and heed signage in construction and maintenance areas.
