Ott defeats Engelke for GOP nomination for Guadalupe County Commissioner

(Seguin)  — The seat of retiring Guadalupe County Commissioner Greg Seidenberger is one step closer to being filled.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Ott has picked up the Republican nomination in the race for Pct. 1 county commissioner. Ott defeated challenger Dustin Engelke during Tuesday’s Republican Primary Runoff Race.

Ott, who led the race the entire night, received 2,751 of the votes cast while Engelke received 2,095 votes.

On top of being excited, Ott is thankful and humbled to have picked up the Republican nomination and appreciates all those who showed up to the polls.

“I’m so excited. I’m so grateful to everyone that helped me. I could not have done it without all the help of so many wonderful people. I’m so happy to be in this spot. I want to congratulate Dustin Engelke. I know he worked really hard and everyone that ran in this race –– Clint Taft, Bryan Underwood, James Ransdell –– everyone worked so hard

and I’m so happy to be here, just very grateful for everybody that helped me along the way. I certainly could not have done it without my friends, my family. I’m grateful to God, of course,” said Ott.

Ott says her work is only half way done as she looks forward to securing the seat this November.

“We’re going to work hard. I want to win. I want this position. We need to make sure we keep Guadalupe County red and I intend to work very hard at that,” added Ott.

As of late Tuesday, Engelke was unavailable for comment.

Ott’s campaign now shifts to Democratic challenger Nahomie Alanis. Also appearing on the November 5 ballot will be Libertarian candidate Nolan Schmidt.
