City approves green light to renovate the greens at Max Starcke Park

(Seguin) — The total renovation of the Starcke Park Golf Course can proceed. The Seguin City Council on Tuesday accepted the low bid of $7.19 million from Mid America Golf and Landscapes. The Missouri based company’s bid was so low that it will allow some additional projects to be completed at the golf course.

Golf Course General Manager Bruce Allen says they are thrilled with the bid from Mid America.

“In 2022, we asked the National Golf Foundation to evaluate our golf course. They did. They came back and they recommended a complete renovation. With that in mind, the council approved the hiring of Ross Golf Design and Brian and his team did a great job coming up with a good plan and we shared that with you all at the workshop in January and you gave us a blessing to solicit bids.

We were fortunate that we received four bids from four very good companies and we are also fortunate that Mid America Golf and Landscapes gave us a good bid and it’s low enough that we can take care of all the other stuff that we need to do in house and hopefully stay within that budget,” said Allen.

The company has tackled a number of projects around the country. He says they will be able to deliver exactly what the city wants for the redesigned municipal golf course.

“You had a list of all the jobs that they’ve done in Texas. Right now, they are even working for the city of Harlingen working for my hometown renovating that golf course that I think was built in 1938 too. We are very happy to have them. Brian and his team is happy with them and like I said, at this time, staff would ask for approval of the resolution to authorize Steve to enter an agreement with them and begin the renovation of the golf course,” said Allen.

The city has been working towards a total makeover of the course for years. The course will be closed for approximately one year while the renovations are made.
