Don't forget to say thank you - City observes Public Service Recognition Week

(Seguin) — If you see police, fire or other city personnel this week, make sure you say thank you.

This week is Public Service Recognition Week. It’s a time to honor those who provide important services to the public.

Seguin City Manager Steve Parker says his staff does amazing work, and he wants them to know how much they are appreciated.

“I just hope the citizens realize what a dedicated devoted staff we have here in our community. They love this community even if they live here or not, they are dedicated, hardworking individuals. We are doing everything we can this week to honor them so if you see a city worker around, please acknowledge them and tell them thank you. They are trying really hard to better this community,” said Parker.

Mayor Donna Dodgen agrees that city staff deserves this recognition. She says they are essential to the city providing quality services to the people in this community.

“Anytime, you see one of the city of Seguin employees, you see our fire, you see our EMS, you see our police officers, please say ‘thank you.’ I would like for us to do it every single day but especially this week. They work really really hard. They keep us consistent. All of us change periodically and so they are the consistency that we have in our hometown,” said Dodgen.

The special salute as part of Public Service Recognition Week was made during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Seguin City Council.

Meanwhile, all employees have been kept happily busy these last few days. The city’s Employee Advisory Committee continues to roll out several employee engagement activities, in conjunction with the Human Resources Department, to show appreciation to all city staff. A special themed event is being held every day this week.

They include:

Monday: Sundaes on Monday – an ice cream social with plenty of toppings for employees to enjoy.

Tuesday: Pancakes & Proclamation – a pancake breakfast followed by a proclamation by Mayor Donna Dodgen and a Team Seguin photo

Wednesday: Nacho Average Employee & Salsa Showdown – Employees entered their salsa in a friendly competition, which was tasted by a panel of judges. Nachos with toppings were also served during lunch.

Thursday: Kona Ice Pop-Up for the Coolest Team in Town- City staff are invited to stop by for an icy treat.

Friday: Burgers at the Utility Operations Center. Employees will gather for a hamburger lunch, in addition to some fun competitions, including a Bake-Off and Tug-o-War between some of the city departments, including Utilities, Public Works and a Battle of the Badges between the Police and Fire Department. Winners of all the competitions will be announced during this final day of Public Service Recognition Week. Trophies and gift cards from local businesses will be given out to the winners.
