Another Schoenvogel takes district MVP to lead Marion 26-3A all-district accolades

Marion Bulldog Baseball X

(Marion) — Marion High School’s Huck Schoenvogel led 2024 Bulldog baseball district postseason accolades with the District MVP, a feat his older brother achieved last year for the Marion baseball program.

The award for the junior Huck gave the Schoenvogel family back-to-back District 26-3A MVP awards after Owen Schoenvogel, who graduated in 2023, took the award last year. Owen is now a member of the Schreiner University baseball team in Kerrville. The younger Schoenvogel was selected as the Newcomer of the Year in 2023.

Bulldog senior catcher Evan Gibbons repeated as the Defensive MVP. Gibbons shared the award this year with Randolph’s Messiah Miller.

And Marion’s Jack Wells was named the Newcomer of the Year. The freshman was a major contributor on the Marion pitching staff this season.

Marion’s All-District First Team honorees include infielders Kade Pape and Mateo Zuniga, outfielders Chase Hallmark and Shayne Whipple along with utility player Casey Cloud. Infielder Braeden Fleming and outfielders Jaxon Garner and Richard Rayos landed on the All-District Second Team for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were the champions of District 26-3A, going undefeated once again during the district season winning all 10 of their games. Marion has won 45 straight district games and has not lost a game in district play since 2019. The Bulldogs advanced to the UIL Class 3A Region IV Bi-District round and finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 19-6-1.

The Bulldogs are led by head coach Tim Tesch, who has been at Marion High School since 2014. Tesch is the school’s all-time leader in career wins with 186.
