Teatro celebrates sold out recital, Cinco de Mayo celebration

(Seguin) – Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin is celebrating a sold-out crowd for its 42nd Annual ¡Viva Teatro! Recital and Cinco de Mayo Festival de Danza y Musica. The recital is set for Friday night at Texas Lutheran University’s Jackson Auditorium.

This year, the non-profit organization welcomed its largest enrollment yet for both Mariachi Juan Seguin and Ballet Folklorico De La Rosa.

Dr. Yvonne De La Rosa, Teatro’s executive director, says more family and friends coming out to support performers resulted in filling the 1,048 seats available at Jackson.

“We want to thank the community for their undying support of Teatro for the last 41 years. Without the community and city of Seguin and surrounding communities, we would not be where we are today with this sellout crowd that will join us for the 42nd anniversary recital and Cinco De Mayo festival. Thank you to everybody. We see and we feel and we know what Teatro means to the community and we thank you,” said De La Rosa.

De La Rosa says the recital, which features 110 students and 15 live performances, will be the culmination of eights months of hard work.

“It was an amazing thing to have seen the tickets fly this year from the secretary’s registrar and to know that the community is so excited about your youth programming as well as your adult programming. It’s also a little sad because I know that there will be some people who have traditionally showed up and who have made it through the door and that will not have the capability of doing that, said De La Rosa.

Those unable to get a ticket will later get the chance to view the entire recital when it becomes available online in the next few weeks. Residents are asked to stay updated by checking the group’s Facebook page.

Those who have tickets are reminded that doors open at 6:30 p.m. followed by the live performances at 7 p.m.

This year’s recital will be dedicated in memory of Mary Martinez, one of the co-founding Teatro Board Members and one of the program’s first vestuario coordinators. She will posthumously be honored with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
