John D. Koch


John David Koch, age 60 of Seguin, passed away on April 26, 2024. John was born on November 5, 1963, in Bellevue, Ohio, to Jacqueline Jean (Richards) and Orville E. Koch.

John is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Deborah Irwin; siblings, Roy Koch (Donna) of Oregon, Steve Koch (Debbie) of Florida, Beth Koch of California, and Mark Koch of Virginia; his wife’s 3 children and 9 grandchildren whom he thought the world of; nieces and nephews, Nathan Koch (Katie), Connie Crawford (Kyle), Chad Koch, Brittany Jones (Brandon); Luca Robbins and  Stephanie Schuler (Jason); 2 dog fur babies, Kleine and Elsa who he loved with all his heart; numerous other loving family members and friends.

John was a quiet but deep man with a great sense of humor and a great wit about him. He always knew when to chip into the conversation with a chuckle. He carried a serious expression on his face but could break out in a terrific smile at any time. He was always willing to help those in need. He grew up in Bellevue, Ohio as the youngest of 5 children and in 1981 graduated from EHOVE Career Center Diesel Mechanics program and Bellevue Senior High School.

He began working with his father in construction, while using his technical skills on his favorite Mustang and as a mechanic at a local service center in Bellevue.

He enjoyed Camping with family in his younger days where he connected with some of his best friends. In addition to his family, he loved spending time with his favorite set of Grandparents taking care of them and their home as they aged. He had a passion for dogs starting at a young age with his first Dachshund and continuing up to today.

John worked for the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office for 35 years and was the Captain of Operations. He developed an interest in policing where he was an active member of the local reserve police as an Officer until he received an opportunity to join the Cibolo County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy from 1987-1989, 1989 he joined the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, 1994 he was promoted to Corporal of Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, 1996 promoted to Sergeant of Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, 2006 he was awarded Officer of the Year by the Seguin Knights of Columbus, 2013 Sheriff Office Supervisor of the Year, 2014 promoted to Patrol Lieutenant of Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, and in 2017 he was promoted to Captain of Operations Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office. He was extremely well respected by the community in his role at the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office. He was admired by all who worked there. Not only was he a friend but a mentor to them as well.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church in Seguin, Texas. Memorial service will be Friday, May 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcus Bigott and Pastor Tom Jones.

Pallbearers will be Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and special friend Thomas Cavanagh. Honorary pallbearers will be Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office employees active and retired.
