Pair of events to help residents rid their homes of unwanted items

(Seguin) — Families are encouraged to not only clean out their medicine cabinets but also toss out those broken or unwanted electronics.

First, in collaborative efforts with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office will provide residents a one-day opportunity  to dispose of unwanted or unused prescription drugs.

The collection effort will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday outside the sheriff’s office entrance. A deputy will be on hand to take the substances to be disposed of with no questions asked. Only solid pharmaceutical products in consumer containers will be accepted. There will not be a collection of any liquids, syringes/needles, vapes or batteries. Only pills and patches will be accepted.

Citizens are asked to contact their doctor or pharmacist as to where syringes/needles can be disposed of, or where DIY sharps containers can be disposed of. The sheriff’s office is located at 2617 N. Guadalupe Street.

Second, in observance of Earth Day, Vitesco Technologies will be hosting a free e-scrap recycling event open to the local community. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Vitesco parking lot.

Items that will be accepted include TVs and monitors; computers, VCR and DVD players, phones, gaming consoles, boom boxes and radios. Appliances and lead-acid batteries will not be accepted.

Company employees will be on hand to help unload items from vehicles. Vitesco is located at 3740 N. Austin St.
