Lions Spring Fling to serve up famous pork steaks

Tickets for annual fundraiser still available

(Seguin) — It’s spring and that means it’s time for tonight’s Seguin Noon Lions Club Spring Fling. Tickets are still available for the event which includes a popular pork steak dinner catered by Troy Brown and Next Door Catering.

The drive-thru event will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Silver Center parking lot.

Since the 1940’s, Lion Bill Klingemann says the club’s fundraiser has evolved into various versions landing the group today with this very successful dinner and raffle event.

Klingemann says of course, helping to feed into that success, is the meal itself.

“Again as I said before, this is that delicious pork steak. Everybody raves about it. Nobody is disappointed. Everybody is excited to get it and get a big portion of that. You get those special potatoes that only Troy Brown and Next Door Catering know how to cook that way. Get some green beans and I don’t even like green beans and I love their green beans. They are just so good. You get all that for $15. We will have a limited number of plates for sale at the door for $20. But again, we encourage people to buy the plates ahead of time. It helps us plan and it makes sure that nobody is disappointed to come down and find out that we sold out,” said Klingemann.

Just as important is the club’s annual raffle. Klingemann says this year’s raffle features 12 great prizes.

“We do have the raffle and it kind of ties into the pork steak because the top prize on that raffle is, in fact, a catered dinner for 50 people donated by Next Door Catering so if you love pork steaks, you can really get together with you and your friends and have a really nice catered dinner. (Fellow Lion) Pat Sagebiel says some people say they don’t have 50 friends but if you win the prize, you will have 50 friends. It’s not going to be a problem. In addition, we have a $750 Visa card; $300 Visa card donated by First United Bank; a $300 credit towards a Lazy Boy recliner at Starcke Furniture; a $200 gift certificate to Granzin’s from Westerholm Koehler Insurance; four rounds of golf from Starcke Park; $150 Visa card; a box of assorted Mini Grip zip bags. That’s a treasured prize. We also have a $100 gift certificate from St. James and $100 gift certificate from Pat and Charles Villeneuve; Dietz Flowers contributed a $50 gift certificate and of course, a one hour massage donated by Janet Ignasiak, licensed massage therapist,” said Klingemann.

Raffle tickets are 15 for $10. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Silver Center; Starcke Furniture, Ascot’s Custom Travel or at Tri County AC and Heating. They can also be purchased from any Lions Club member.

Proceeds from the event go to support various charities including the Lions KidSight USA Foundation, the Lions Camp in Kerrville and the Christian Cupboard, Seguin’s food pantry.
