Dr. Vernon C.  Haverlah


Dr. Vernon C.  Haverlah, former Seguin resident, passed away in Kerrville, Texas on April 20, 2024 at the age of 72 years.  Vernon was born April 5, 1952 to Gene and Lucille (Lieke) Haverlah.  He graduated from Floresville High School in 1970.

Vernon attended Texas Lutheran College, graduating in 1974.  After attending medical school at Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and completing his internship and residency, he returned to Seguin to establish his medical practice.  He served the Seguin community with clinical, hospital and nursing home practices from 1983 to 2007.  He also served medical needs at different times in Nixon, Warm Springs Hospital in Luling, Junction and Pleasanton. 

Vernon met his wife, Diana Crenwelge at Texas Lutheran College.  They married on July 30, 1972.  They raised their four children in Seguin.  While in Seguin, they were members of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church.  In 2007, they moved to their ranch in west Kerr County.  Vernon took pleasure in becoming a part of the Divide community, volunteering at the local fire department and becoming involved in several local churches and ministries.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horseback riding, and scuba diving.  He also liked to spend time on his ranch, tending to the land and taking care of a variety of animals he raised.

Vernon was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Lucille and Thomas Novak, his brother David Haverlah, and his sisters-in-law Cynthia Haverlah and Heidi Crenwelge.  He is survived by his wife of 51+ years, Diana Haverlah; children, Jeffrey Haverlah, Rebecca Hyer and husband Joshua, Michael Haverlah and Daniel Haverlah; grandchildren, Christopher, Jesse, Kaitlin, Jeffrey Jr., Jayden, Zoe and Bria Haverlah; father and step-mother Gene and Toni Haverlah; siblings, Douglas Haverlah and wife Heidi, Kathy Kolkhorst and husband Gary, and James Haverlah and wife Helen; sister-in-law Linda Dunn Haverlah;  brother-in-law Nathan Crenwelge and wife Alice; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday April 26, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday April 27, 2024 at 10:00 am in Christ Lutheran Church in Cherry Spring.  Interment will follow in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery.
