Early voting in May 4 election underway !

(Seguin) – Early voting begins today in the Saturday, May 4th election.

Voters are reminded that this is not early voting for the Republican Primary Run-off Election. That will take place closer to the election in late May.

Lisa Hayes, the Guadalupe County Elections Administrator says this May 4th election will include ballot items from cities, schools, and political subdivisions. She says she strongly encourages voters to check with the elections office if they are not sure if they reside in a jurisdiction that will be holding an election on May 4th.

“Because the county itself isn’t holding an election for county level races, so there will be voters who don’t have a ballot for the May 4th election so it is really important that they come and get a sample ballot and the easiest thing to do is come to the elections office. They can also go out to the early voting locations and the poll workers can look them up and find their sample ballot but there will be a little difference because some voters won’t have anything to vote on until we get to the Primary Run-off in the end of May,” said Hayes.

Hayes says voters should take note of the following entities and see if they live within their service area.

“Some of the entities that we will see in this election will be the Guadalupe MUD 6, Lake Dunlap Water Control Improvement District, New Braunfels ISD, Springs Hill SUD, the city of Selma, Navarro ISD, the city of Santa Clara, Universal City and Sky Ranch Municipal Utility District. So there is a wider range of districts that we don’t always see in the May election this year,” said Hayes.

As Hayes mentioned, one of the jurisdictions that has been preparing for an election is the Navarro ISD. Navarro ISD voters are being asked to consider a $120 million bond election.

There are three propositions that make up the bond package. Proposition A has a total of $73.7 million and includes the construction of a new elementary school. Proposition B calls for $35.5 million to be spent on a new athletic stadium and field house. Proposition C calls for expenditures of $10.8 million for new baseball and softball turf fields, tennis courts, restrooms, and concessions.

District officials say the fast-paced growth that the area is experiencing has forced them to come before voters.

The district’s Long Range Planning Committee identified 18 subdivisions that are actively under construction as well as 12 future subdivisions in progress. Committee members say the district’s existing facilities just cannot handle that growth.

Another highlighted ballot item involves the Springs Hill Water Supply Corporation. Springs Hill is asking its members to allow it to convert from a water corporation to a special utility district or SUD. In addition, voters will get to vote for one or all of the six individuals seeking a director position for Springs Hill.

Voters may cast their ballots at all six early voting locations in Guadalupe County. Those locations include the Seguin Elections Office, the Central Texas Technology Center, Redemptive Grace Ministries, the Schertz Community Center, Selma City Hall and the New Berlin City Hall.

Early voting begins today and runs through Tuesday, April 30. The hours this week are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (April 22-26) and on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting hours Monday and Tuesday (April 29 and 30th) are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sample ballots are available in the elections office or at the early voting polls.
