Rain or shine, Seguin 5K River Run/Walk a go

(Seguin) – On your marks, get set, race. Sign-up is still available for this Saturday’s annual Seguin 5K River Run/Walk.

The chip timed event is hosted annually by Faith Lutheran Church. Proceeds from this year’s event will go to support the South Texas Pregnancy Care Center which is set to open in its new location on East Kingsbury Street next month.

This year’s 5K fundraiser will get underway at the Dance Pavilion located outside the Seguin Coliseum.

Among the organizers is Carlee Goetz. Goetz say the event is simply about fellowship and getting out and enjoying the local river.

“The weather is supposed to be pretty in the morning. The cool front is supposed to blow in in the evening. It’s going to be a great opportunity to get out and see arguably the most beautiful part of our little town which is along the river. We run right along the river. You will be able to sign up day of the race and we have ordered lots of extra t-shirts. So, there’s a good chance even if you just show up and sign-up day of race that  you will still get a t-shirt and there will be music and lots of folks to just visit with and so it should be a beautiful morning,” said Goetz.

Awards will be given to the top two males and females in the various age groups ranging from 5 to 10 to 66 to 99.

No matter the level of competition a person is looking for, Goetz says  the event is designed for all skill levels.

“It’s a run/walk. So a lot of us will not be running if you just want to walk, stroll, push your kids in a stroller, all excellent options to do in the morning. So, come on out,” said Goetz.

Again strollers and well-mannered dogs on a leash are welcomed.

Online registration will close at noon Friday. Late registration will be held in person on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the front office of Faith Lutheran Church located at 1326 E. Cedar St. Registration will also be available on the day of the race from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. at the dance pavilion.

Opening ceremonies will be held from 8:15 to 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K start at 8:30 a.m. and awards at 9:30 a.m. Entry fee is $30 for adults and $20 for kids ages 1 to 18.
