Free disposal of items for city residents only

(Seguin) – It’s time to do a little spring cleaning. The city of Seguin is again offering residents an opportunity to get rid of unwanted items during the 2024 Spring Clean-Up Day this Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. Organizers say the clean-up will be held rain or shine.

Jennifer Sourdellia, the city’s public information officer, says this is a prime opportunity for citizens to clear out their yards and homes of unwanted or broken items. She says residents can leave it up to the city to get it disposed of properly.

“Seguin residents are encouraged to bring discarded items from around the home for free disposal at the Seguin Events Complex (Coliseum) parking lot.

Participants are required to provide proof of residency in the city limits by showing a photo ID or utility bill. City employees will be available to assist residents with unloading items from vehicles and trailers,” said Sourdellia.

Accepted items include junk disposal, scrap metal, appliances without Freon and paper shredding.

A maximum of 10 automobile tires will also be accepted. However, no tractor-trailer, mower, bicycle, or ATV tires will be collected. Tires with rims or tires larger than 19.5 inches are not allowed. Tires from local businesses will also not be accepted.

As mentioned, paper shredding will be available as a free service at the event. Residents can bring any documents containing sensitive information for secure on-site shredding and disposal. Up to two bags or boxes will be accepted for shredding.

While most items will be accepted, there are those items that will not be collected during Saturday’s Clean-Up. Those items include hazardous material or chemicals; brush and limbs; fences, sheds, construction materials or debris; and appliances with Freon.

The Seguin Coliseum parking lot is located at 950 S. Austin St. Again, proof of residency will be required. Residents with additional questions are asked to call the Public Works Department at (830) 401-2416 or visit https://bit.ly/SeguinCleanUpDay.
