SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Texas Lutheran Baseball trailed early and could not complete the comeback, dropping the series to 14th-ranked Trinity 9-6 on Sunday at Trinity Baseball Field.

The Bulldogs (19-13, 8-7 SCAC) will look to bounce back in their final homestand against the Centenary College Gents starting on Friday at Katt-Isbel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM. All games will be streamed on TLU’s YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

Carson Draehn (Brenham/Brenham) went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Xavier Arias (La Vernia/Nixon-Smiley) finished 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three runs scored.

Diego Vinton (Richmond/George Ranch) picked up the loss, throwing 4.2 innings allowing eight runs (five earned) on ten hits and three walks.

After an RBI single from Carson Draehn in the first to take a 1-0 lead, the Tigers would respond with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Trinity came back and scored three runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-1.

Texas Lutheran chipped away at the lead with three runs in the fifth, as Draehn drove in two with a two-RBI double. Adam Peavy (Houston/Memorial) would score on a Trinity error to shrink the lead to 5-4.

The Tigers got all three runs back in the bottom of the inning via a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run. The Tigers would tack on an additional run in the sixth to bring the game to a score of 9-4.

Chase Bourgeois (Liberty/Clear Falls) drove in Draehn in the seventh to shrink the Bulldogs deficit to 9-5. Xavier Arias led off the ninth with a solo home run but the Bulldogs were held at bay for the remainder of the inning to come up short of the comeback.
