(Seguin) – The Seguin Matadors rallied for a walk-off victory over San Antonio Veterans Memorial, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun the Patriots 5-4 on Tuesday at Smokey Joe Williams Field.

The Matadors loaded the bases to start the inning, and then senior Kayden Holz delivered a bases-clearing double to the left-center gap to tie the game at four. Anthony Martinez would then get hit by a pitch and Holt Haas would follow with a bunt-single to the load the bases again. And then Cooper Neumann would get hit by a pitch to bring Holz home with the winning run.

Creed Weaver tossed four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win on the mound. The senior faced bases-loaded no-out jams in the fourth and sixth innings and was able to escape with no damage both times. In the fourth, Weaver go a pop-out and a pair of strikeouts to end a Patriots rally. In the sixth, Weaver started a 1-2-3 double play on a comebacker and then got a groundout to short to keep Veterans Memorial off the scoreboard.

With the victory, the Matadors improved to 4-5 in District 26-5A with five games left in the season. Seguin’s win coupled with New Braunfels Canyon’s loss at Smithson Valley on Tuesday moves the Matadors into a tie with the Cougars for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district standings.
