(Seguin) — This past Thursday, Seguin High School senior John Jackson was presented with a trophy by the Seguin Sports Booster Club for his school records achieved on the basketball court.

Jackson, who will play basketball and football at UT-Rio Grande Valley, finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Jackson was recognized for the following accomplishments by the Seguin booster club:

4 year letterman in Basketball
3x 1st team All-District
2x District Offensive MVP
McDonald’s All American Nominee
Chicken Express All Star MVP
San Antonio Sports All Star Game Participant

Jackson was also a three-year letter on the Matador football team. He set a single-season school record with 1784 yards rushing in 10 games this past season. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and led the Matadors with 17 touchdowns.

Jackson was named the 2023 District 12-5A Offensive MVP to lead Matador all-district football selections. He was also named Mr. Matador – Team MVP at the annual Seguin football banquet. Jackson finished his football career as the school’s leader in career rushing yards.

The Matador basketball won 16 games this past season, finishing in a tie for fourth with Pieper in the district. The Matadors were led by fourth-year head coach Guy Nowlin. Craig Dailey is the school’s athletic director and head football coach.
