(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors walked it off Thursday night in a 2-1 victory over Kerrville Tivy at Smokey Joe Williams Field.
In a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh, Griffin Welfel led off the inning for the Mats with a base hit. Kayden Holz would follow with a blast to the gap in right center that would score Gabe Hernandez, who was running for Welfel, all the way from first with the winning run.
Welfel got the start on the hill for the Matadors and went the distance to pick up the victory. The freshman right-hander struck out three and scattered six hits.
The Matadors improved to 2-4 in District 26-5A play. Seguin will be at San Antonio Wagner on Tuesday.
(Marion) — The Marion Bulldogs kept their five-year long district winning streak alive with a walk-off victory of their own on Thursday, coming from behind to beat Great Hearts Northern Oaks 7-6 in Marion.
Down 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Marion scored three runs including the final two on a Northern Oaks error to end the game. Marion trailed 6-2 at one point, but completed the comeback to extend the school’s district win streak to 39 games.
Marion is 4-0 in District 26-3A this season. The Bulldogs last lost a district game in 2019. Marion will host Randolph on Tuesday.
(La Vernia) — And the Navarro Panthers fell 7-3 in La Vernia on Thursday night. The Panthers are now 2-1 in District 27-4A. Navarro will host La Vernia this coming Tuesday.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors run-ruled Pieper, 17-0 at the Fields at Huber Ranch on Thursday night.
Chloe Belicek and Brylee Wieding each hit grand slams on the night for the Lady Mats. Camryn Rios blasted her 11th homer, tying the school record for the most home runs in a season. Kendall Hurt got the win in the circle allowing only one hit in the shut-out victory.
Seguin has outscored their opponents 31-0 in their last two games. The Lady Matadors, 4-4 in district play, will be at first place Smithson Valley on Tuesday.
(Geronimo) — In Geronimo, the Navarro Lady Panthers dropped their first District 27-4A game of the season falling 15-1 to the 4th-ranked team in the state, the Cuero Lady Gobblers.
Navarro is 4-1 in district play. The Lady Panthers will host San Antonio Memorial on Tuesday. You’ll be able to hear that game on KWED.
