(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matador softball team hosts Boerne Champion in the final game of the first round of District 26-5A play this evening.
Tonight’s game is a big one for the Lady Mats. Seguin currently sits one game behind Champion for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district standings.
The Lady Mats feature a one-two punch in the circle with left handed pitcher Madyson Schultze and righty Kendall Hurt. Seguin head coach John Garcia says the combination of Schultze and Hurt presents different looks to opposing teams.
“They’ve been awesome. That lefty/righty combination is nice to have. You can always keep teams off-balance with that,” Garcia said. “It’s just been a dream come true with those two and they’re such great kids. They’re hard workers. They believe in what we’re doing and they’re both moving onto the next level. I’m so proud of them. I can’t wait to see how they do there.”
Kendall Hurt will play college softball at Lamar State College in Port Arthur. Madyson Schultze will attend Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
First pitch between the Lady Mats and Lady Chargers is set for 7 O’clock tonight. We’ll have all the play-by-play for you on KWED. Our Lady Matador pregame coverage starts at 6:45 from the Fields at Huber Ranch on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com
