(Frisco) — Seguin sophomore Trinity MacLeod finished sixth in the state in the 114-pound weight class at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet in Frisco this past Saturday.

MacLeod squatted 300 pounds, she bench pressed 170 pounds and dead lifted 245 pounds for a total of 715 pounds. The squat and bench lifts bested her season-high efforts at the regional meet last month. MacLeod’s total of 715 was also an improvement of 15 pounds over her total at the regionals.

The Navarro girls powerlifting team also had an outstanding performance at the women’s state meet on Friday in Frisco.

Three Lady Panthers finished in the top five of the state and two state records were set. Haley Karlik finished in fourth place in the 132-pound weight class. Karlik set a new state record with a 255-pound bench press.

Kaiya Castle was fifth in the 165-pound weight class. She earned the award for the Most Outstanding Deadlift out of all heavy platforms.

Gabby Geipel was a fifth place finisher in the 148-pound weight class. And Maggie Patlan set a state record in the 242-pound weight class with a bench press of 255 pounds.

The Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet was held this past Friday and Saturday at the Comerica Center in Frisco.

For the boys, the Texas High School Powerlifting Association boys state championship meet is set for this Friday and Saturday at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene. Seguin’s James Medrano and Marion’s Justin DeHoyos along with the Navarro High School regional champion team will be competing at that state meet.
