(Seguin) — Seguin’s John Jackson capped off his senior year by repeating as the District 26-5A Offensive MVP and earning all-district first team honors for the 2023-24 boys basketball season.

Jackson led Seguin in scoring at 27.9 points per game, which was tops in the state of Texas in Class 5A and third in all classifications. He also led Seguin in rebounding at nearly 10 boards per contest. A four-year Matador basketball letterman, Jackson was a McDonald’s All-American nominee and a San Antonio Sports All-Star this past season. On January 16th, the senior guard/forward passed 2000 points in his career.

Jackson was also a standout on the football field for the Matadors. He was named the 2023 District 12-5A Offensive MVP after establishing a new Seguin High School single-season program record with 1784 yards rushing in 10 games this past season. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and led the Matadors with 17 touchdowns. Jackson will play basketball and football at UT-Rio Grande Valley.

Joining Jackson on the All-District 26-5A team were Corey Dailey, who was named to the second team along with Gabe Hernandez and Cameron Juarez-Bruns, who were both named honorable mentions. Dailey was second on the Matadors in scoring at 10.8 points per game. Juarez-Bruns was third on the team at 6.3 points per contest. Hernandez was fourth, dropping in 5.6 points per game.

Academic All-District team members for Seguin were Hernandez, Dailey, Gavin Molina, Colton Saengerhausen, Chase Zuniga, Noah Lara, and Lane Seidenberger. Zuniga earned First Team All-State Academic honors while Molina was named an All-State Academic Honorable Mention.

Seguin won 16 games this past season, finishing in a tie for fourth with Pieper in the district. The Matadors were led by fourth-year head coach Guy Nowlin.
