(Seguin) – A conversation with new Seguin ISD Superintendent Veronica Vijil comes to listeners of this week’s Saturday Topic program on radio station KWED.
Dr. Vijil joins KWED/Seguin Daily News General Manager Darren Dunn for a candid discussion about her background in education and her plans for the Seguin ISD.
Dr. Vijil was originally hired as deputy superintendent last year. She took over as interim superintendent after the departure of former Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez, who left in September to take a position in the Leander ISD. Dr. Vijil was formally offered the job earlier this year, and the interim tag was removed. She says being in all those months, helped to better prepare her for the transition into the district’s top job.
“What I have really really enjoyed is that I did get to come in as deputy superintendent and started to make some assessments — started to just observe, get out the campuses, talk to people, get out to the community and my husband and I chose to live in Seguin right away. It was just a decision that we made and so, it is who we are. We just started to find some things to do in Seguin. Whether it was trivia night that we found, we just wanted to get to know the community because the community is really what drives the district and the community’s thoughts, the community’s belief system, the community’s values and so, I wanted to see what that is. What do we have in place in our campuses that align with the belief system and the vision of the community because it takes a village,” said Vijil.
