(Marion) — Three Marion High School senior student-athletes signed college letters of intent on Wednesday at the high school.
Chase Hallmark signed a baseball letter to attend Texas Lutheran University. Samuel Proscia signed a football commitment at Gustavus Adolphus College. And Justin DeHoyos signed a football and track & field commitment at Northwestern College.
Hallmark will stay close to home at Texas Lutheran in Seguin. He’s a four-sport athlete at Marion. On the diamond, Chase was a first team all-District 26-3A selection in the outfield as a junior in 2023. This season, Hallmark plays center field and bats clean-up for head coach Tim Tesch.
Hallmark plans to study kinesiology. He says he feels he can be an asset in the clubhouse at TLU.
“I think I can really bring good sportsmanship and get the guys together,” Hallmark said. “I feel I could be a pretty good teammate there.”
DeHoyos will attend Northwestern College. He will play football and compete in the shot-put in track and field. Justin, who was selected to the District 13-3A football first team in 2023 as an offensive lineman, will join his older brother Dillyn on the football team and track squad at the Orange City, Iowa university.
DeHoyos plans to study exercise science and get into coaching after college. He says he will miss the camaraderie he has with his Marion teammates.
“The football team is a big brotherhood,” DeHoyos said. “I’m gonna miss playing with those guys, but they’re gonna be proud of me. So, I’m moving on with them.”
Proscia will head up north to St. Peter, Minnesota to play football at Gustavus Adolphus. Proscia was selected to the District 13-3A second team at tight end this past season.
Sam will play tight end and be a deep snapper in college. He plans to study sports management and would like to eventually be a special teams coach. Proscia says he looks forward to playing football in the cold Minnesota climate.
“I’ll get to experience all the seasons, especially the really, really cold winters like negative-20, negative-30,” Proscia said. “So that should be really interesting. That will definitely take some getting used to, but I’m excited. I can’t wait to go there.”
The Marion athletic department is led by AD Ryne Miller. He has been the athletic director at Marion High School for the past six years.
