There was plenty of action on the diamonds for area high school baseball and softball teams this weekend.
(Marion) — On Friday night, the Marion Bulldogs battled to a 5-5 tie with the Lytle Pirates in nine innings at Marion High School.
Huck Schoenvogel singled and scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The teams went scoreless for the next three innings. Bulldog right-handed pitcher Shayne Whipple kept the Pirates off the scoreboard in the final three innings, striking out three along the way.
Richie Rayos had a two-out two-RBI base hit in a three-run second inning for the Bulldogs. Jaxson Garner scored two runs and swiped two bases on the night for Marion.
The Bulldogs will next host Stockdale on Tuesday night.
(Blanco) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs crushed Lytle, 11-1 at the Blanco softball tournament on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs rebounded with a win after dropping two games on Friday. Marion won two tournament games on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs will be at Wimberley on Tuesday night.
(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors finished on winning notes at the second Seguin softball tournament at the Huber Ranch in three weeks.
Seguin blasted Roma in their first game Saturday, 19-3. D’yanna Priestly hit a grand slam in her first at-bat and Chloe Belicek hit a two-run home run in her third at-bat.
In the Lady Mats’ second game, Seguin blew past Austin Crockett, 16-3. Marissa Torrence hit a three-run home run in her last at-bat to end the game due to a run-rule.
The Lady Matadors will be at Pieper to open District 26-5A play on Tuesday.
(League City) — The Seguin baseball team picked up a win on Thursday at the Clear Creek ISD tournament in League City before falling in games on Friday and Saturday.
The Matadors beat Clear Falls, 3-1 on Thursday to start the tourney on the first day. Seguin dropped games to Bellaire, Clear Brook and Clear Springs on the final two days.
Seguin will be at San Antonio Central Catholic on Monday.
(Floresville) — The Navarro Panther baseball team went 3-1 at the Floresville tournament which wrapped up on Saturday.
On Thursday, the Panthers beat TMI-Episcopal, 5-3 and trampled San Antonio Home School, 21-1. Navarro beat San Antonio Burbank, 6-1 on Friday and were edged, 3-2 by host Floresville on Saturday.
Austin Davidson and Matt Villanueva were named to the All-Tourney teams for the Panthers. Davidson went 6-for-13 at the plate with four RBI. He had a win and four strikeouts in two appearances on the mound. Villanueva batted 5-for-12 with six RBI and picked up a save on the bump.
Navarro will be at the Hallettsville tournament starting this Thursday.
(Weimar) — And the Navarro Lady Panther softball team went 3-2 at the Weimar tournament, finishing with a 17-1 romp over Burton on Saturday.
Jocelyn Diaz got the win in the circle for the Lady Panthers on Saturday. On Friday, Shelbi Stevens and Sarah Falor hit home runs as Navarro split a pair of games. Reagan Herrera earned a win and hit a grand slam as the Lady Panthers went 1-1 in the tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers will be at Canyon Lake on Tuesday.
