Seguin and Pieper to face off for Bi-District play-in game tonight

(Cibolo) — The Seguin Matadors will play Pieper in a play-in game for the District 26-5A fourth and final playoff spot this evening in Cibolo.

Both teams ended the district season tied for fourth place. Seguin beat Pieper, 79-74 last Friday at Goldie Harris Gym in Seguin behind senior guard/forward John Jackson’s 44 points. The Mats then took down Smithson Valley, 62-49 on Tuesday while the Warriors lost to Wagner, 39-32 to force a tiebreaker. Pieper defeated Seguin at Pieper High School, 75-65 back on January 16th.

Jackson, a McDonald’s All-American nominee, is fifth in the state of Texas in all classifications averaging 27.9 points per game. He also averages nearly 10 rebounds per contest. Jackson committed to UT-Rio Grande Valley to play basketball and football last week. Forward Corey Dailey is second on the Matadors in scoring. The sophomore averages 11.1 points per game and is pulling down six rebounds per game.

Mayson Thomas is the Warriors’ leading scorer. The sophomore guard/forward averages 18.2 points per contest and is strong on the boards, leading Pieper with 10.3 rebounds per game.

The play-in game will take place at Cibolo Steele High School. Tonight’s winner will face Class 5A 6th-ranked Leander Rouse in the Bi-District round next week.

(Weimar) — In Class 3A, the Marion Bulldogs are preparing for their Bi-District round match-up. Marion will take on the Yoakum Bulldogs in the first round this coming Tuesday. The game will take place in Weimer and will tip at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
