John Medina Cuellar


John Medina Cuellar, age 87 of Seguin, passed away on January 30, 2024.  John was born on November 19, 1936, in Cuero, Texas to Natalia (Medina) and Juan Rivera Cuellar.

He was a graduate of Cuero High School and Southwest Texas State University. During the Korean Conflict, he proudly served his country as a gunner’s mate in the United States Navy.  His service included time on the USS Lexington. After his military service and retiring from the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Trooper, he worked as a Deputy U. S. Marshall.

His memberships included a lifetime membership of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 245, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8456.  He and Frances were active members of the St. James Catholic Church where he was previously also a member of the Knights of Columbus.             

He is preceded in death by his grandson, Nickolas Ryan Cuellar, and his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Frances Cuellar; sons, John Cuellar, Jr., Mike Cuellar, and Ronnie Cuellar and fiancé Vicki Black; daughter, Tina Crawford and husband, Robert; sister, Gregoria Michel; grandchildren, Christie Hurt, Casey Cuellar, Michael Cuellar, John-Louis Cuellar, Jamey Cuellar, Michaela Cuellar, Amanda Cuellar, Diamond Armstrong, Cheyenne Sapon, and Talia Dublin; numerous great-grandchildren; other loving family members and many friends.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m.   The recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.  Interment with military honors will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Alex Bartee, Billie Watson, Rudy Jaramillo, Jimmy Rosas, Marty Schwarzkopf, and Zach Johnson.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Officers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
